DUI charges stem from crashes
State police at Stroudsburg reported on the following crashes on Monroe County roads investigated by troopers. Both involved pending drunken driving charges.
A two-vehicle crash was reported about 7:58 p.m. on Oct. 12 along Route 33 in Hamilton Township. Troopers said Haley R. Leverone, 32, of Palmerton, and Christopher C. Shimer, 34, of Westminster, Maryland, were both southbound with Shimer in the left lane and Leverone in the right lane. Leverone came upon a slow moving vehicle and attempted to change into the left lane and struck Shimer’s 2019 Dodge Durango with her 2013 Jeep Laredo.
Leverone and her passenger, Heather A. Becker, 37, of Portland, Northampton County, and Shimer and his passengers, Leeann M. Shimer, 38, and two boys, ages 7 and 10, all of Westminster, were all not injured. Damages were minor to the vehicles.
The police report indicates Leverone is facing driving under the influence charges.
A one-vehicle crash was reported at 3:02 p.m. on Oct. 20 along Creek Road in Price Township. Troopers said Deborah A. Amoruso, 52, of Effort, was driving a 2014 Kia Sorento northbound and failed to negotiate a curve. Her vehicle slid off the road and into a ditch along the east side where it came to rest. The vehicle had to be towed.
