DUI, drug arrests reported in Monroe

Two driving under the influence and drug arrests were reported by Pocono Mountain Regional police in Monroe County in separate incidents.

Police said on Oct. 7, they observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed along Route 115 in Tunkhannock Township.

Police clocked the vehicle going 68 mph in a 45 zone.

A stop was made and the driver identified as Dennis Smith, 44, of Albrightsville.

While speaking with Smith, officers detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A consent search was granted and police uncovered suspected marijuana and cocaine.

Smith failed filed sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for DUI. While being transported for processing Smith tried to discard and hide oxycodone pills which he had concealed on himself. Charges were filed upon receipt of toxicology tests for DUI and drugs.

Smith has been charged with DUI of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, possession of marijuana and speeding.

On Nov. 22, police made a vehicle stop along Route 940 in Tobyhanna Township for failure to lower high beams. The driver was identified as Craig Gesualdi, 47, of East Stroudsburg.

While speaking with him officers notice several indicators of drug impairment. Upon checking his license, the officer noticed the driver’s license photographs did not match.

Officers also found heroin, methamphetamine, suboxone and cut straw pieces.

Gesualdi was placed under arrest and said he lied and used his brother’s identity.

As a result police charged him with DUI of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, false identification to law enforcement and traffic violations.
