Duo is apprehended after chase through cornfields

Published December 20. 2019 11:14AM

State police at the Frackville barracks said two people were jailed after they fled the scene of a retail theft in New Ringgold and led police on a chase that traversed through cornfields in that area.

Chad Belsak, 44, of New Ringgold, was arraigned on charges of receiving stolen property, retail theft, robbery, driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and other offenses and committed to the Schuylkill County Prison, in Pottsville, in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Marybeth Lynn Lambert, 35, of Schuylkill Haven, was jailed at the county lockup on outstanding warrants against her.

Police said they responded to a retail theft incident at 2:19 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Dollar General Store, Summer Valley Road, New Ringgold, but Belsak and Lambert, who were involved in the shoplifting incident, fled the scene in a pickup towing another pickup before police arrived.

Police said the truck was observed in New Ringgold and a pursuit was initiated but the duo fled the scene, leading police onto back roads in New Ringgold. Police said the truck being towed fell off the runaway truck and went down an embankment.

Belsak was driving the runaway vehicle and he led police through cornfields and drove to the edge of a field, at which point both Belsak and Lambert got out of the truck and attempted to flee on foot into the woods before they were apprehended and taken into custody.

This was actually a funny story about stupid people. I swear. God gives us stupid people to make us laugh. As if shoplifting is not stupid enough, but using a truck towing another truck as a getaway vehicle is pure stupidity.
