Early morning accident blocks SR 54
Police and fire companies responded to a motor vehicle accident near Ametek early Saturday morning.
Nesquehoning Police were dispatched to SR 54 for a report of a silver Jeep Patriot on its side at 4:34 a.m. Nesquehoning Hose Company No. 1, New Columbus Fire Company and Hauto Volunteer Fire Company were on the scene as well. Marouchoc’s Auto was contacted to remove the sport utility vehicle from the roadway.
Nesquehoning Police said that it appeared as if the driver had fallen asleep and veered off to the side of the eastbound lane, striking a PPL pole and causing it to sheer off.
The driver was taken to St. Luke’s ER with minor injuries.
SR 54 was closed for approximately 40 minutes in order to allow crews to clean up the wreckage.
