East Penn fire ruled arson

A state police fire marshal has ruled a fire that extensively damaged a vacant two-story residence in East Penn Township was arson.

The fire was reported at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday at 860 W. Sunset Road.

The fire spread throughout the residence and was extinguished by East Penn Fire Company volunteers with the assistance of volunteers from Bowmanstown, Palmerton, Parryville, Aquashicola and Franklin Township fire departments.

Trooper Gary Fedor said it was determined the fire was deliberately set. He added that a small container of fresh two-stroke fuel that may have been used during the incident, was found at the scene.

Troopers did not mention if there were suspects in the case. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call them at 610-681-1850.
