East Penn woman out nearly $9,000 in marriage scam

A theft by deception case in East Penn Township has left a woman out nearly $9,000.

State police at Lehighton said someone made contact with the woman via Facebook. After having multiple conversations with the woman, the suspect requested money to pay a friend with the promise of coming to Pennsylvania to marry her.

Police said the woman who lives on Blue Mountain Road sent $8,960. The incident was reported to police at 3 a.m. March 28.
