Eldred community center holds trunk or treat for area residents

On Saturday, St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ’s Christians In Action group, along with the Eldred Township Community Center, hosted a trunk or treat for the area residents.

Inside the center’s gymnasium, witches and costumed characters manned tables full of goodies and snacks.

“Our group started at the church, and for a long time we wanted to get more of the community involved,” organizer Diann Bittenbender said. “Here at the community center, we feel it’s a safer alternative to walking on the road.”

Ninjas, vampires, pumpkins and turtles say the magic words “trick or treat” and grab their fill of chocolate, peanut butter, pretzels and snacks of all sorts, giggling, “thank you” as they run to the next booth.

Jack Lovewell of Kunkletown provided a haunted house backdrop that people didn’t hesitate to get a few photos in front of.

“I painted this in 1994 for our basement parties, and here it still is today for folks to take photos,” he said.

When asked what her favorite part about trunk or treat is, Faith Batson, 9, summed it up in one word, “Candy.”

Other events

Other events scheduled in Eldred Township include:

• Trick-or-treat night is 6-8 p.m. today.

• Mrs. Bush’s Personal Care Home will have a trick-or-treat hour from 6-7 p.m. today.

• Jewelry designer Jill Elizabeth will host a beading workshop at the Eldred Township Community Center from 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $20. Limited spaces are available. Call to reserve a spot at 610-381-4252, ext. 2.

• The Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company’s breakfast will be on Sunday. They will also be holding a turkey drawing on Nov. 8.

• Food Pantry distribution dates for this month are from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Nov. 17.

• The Thrift Shop is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for your bargain shopping needs.
