Eldred group plans Earth Day cleanup Sunday
In honor of the 48th annual Earth Day, the Historic Church Road One-Room Schoolhouse, in cooperation with Eldred Township, is coordinating a spring cleanup of Church Road on Sunday.
This is a registered Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Great American Cleanup event.
Volunteers can meet at the Frantz Schoolhouse (485 Church Road) from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to pick up a plastic trash bag and latex gloves. Volunteers can also begin the cleanup closer to home using their own bags and then join the group at the schoolhouse.
The goal is to collect typical roadside trash such as beverage containers and fast-food wrappers.
Volunteers are urged to dress appropriately for the weather and when possible wear bright-colored clothing for safety. Volunteers are not expected to do more than 20 or so minutes and then return to the schoolhouse for an opportunity to enjoy each other’s company and view the 1855 building’s exhibits of local artifacts.
You do not have to participate in the cleanup to attend the “after party” at the schoolhouse. Festivities will end at 3:30 p.m. Parking is available at the school.
The group reminds everyone to follow all safety precautions that you would follow when walking on township roads.
• Always stay alert
• Face the direction of traffic.
• Stay in the off-road area.
• When you are crossing the road be in a straight line of vision for traffic.
• Be aware, drivers do not expect to see people along the road, you will be a distraction and can cause them swerve, do not make abrupt moves.
• Do not work on both sides of the road at the same time.
