Eldred Township awards contract for Gower Road bridge work
Eldred Township supervisors discussed bridge work at Wednesday’s meeting.
Supervisor Gary Hoffman said the work will begin on replacing the Gower Road Bridge this summer.
“As soon as the paperwork is complete they should be able to break ground,” Hoffman said. “Most likely in late July or August.”
The contract was awarded to the lowest bidder out of seven companies that submitted bids. The bids ranged from a high of $472,258 down to E.F. Possinger’s bid or $238,150. The supervisors tentatively awarded the contract to Possinger pending the normal contractual requirements of performance bonding and insurance. The township engineer will also review the contract to verify that the proposed work is compliant with the pre-bid specifications.
The work cannot begin until the township gets the necessary easements from adjoining property owners.

The Veterans Memorial Committee requested permission from the township to remove the landscaping that surrounds the memorial in front of the township building and will have the area landscaping replaced. The committee will pay for all of the costs of the work. The supervisors agreed to the request.
