Eldred Twp. to join planning discussions on joint emergency effort
Wednesday evening Eldred Township supervisors signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Chestnuthill Township securing a “seat at the table” in discussions regarding a potential joint operation between a number of local townships.
“Signing this memorandum costs us nothing and gives us the opportunity to help shape the project,” said planning board member Robert Boileau. “By signing we are not obligating any financial support at this time.”
The project in question is something that Chestnuthill Township has been spearheading to help each of the surrounding townships to work together in the case of a major disaster. The main focus would be an actual room set aside in the planned Chestnuthill Emergency Services building which is to be built across the street from the existing West End Fire Company on Route 715.
The project is in its infancy and the MOAs are Chestnuthill’s way of inviting neighboring townships to join in the discussion and to appoint a township resident to sit in on the planning sessions.
Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kevin Silliman was appointed to represent Eldred Township.
The supervisors also approved a motion to send a letter in support of Penn Future supporting the effort to maintain the classification of “Exceptional Value” for some of the local streams and creeks. A donation was also approved for the Aquashicola/Pohopoco Watershed Conservancy.
