Election 2017: Lehighton mayor
We asked the candidates to respond to a question about what they would do to improve the community through the office they are seeking. They were limited to 175 words. There are two candidates seeking the open four-year term for mayor of Lehighton in the Nov. 7 election. Their answers are in their own words.
Clark Ritter
Clark Ritter is a lifelong Lehighton resident. Ritter graduated from Lehighton High School and the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, serving the people of the Commonwealth during his law enforcement career.
He has experience in traffic and criminal law investigation. He served as chairman of the 150th Celebration Committee and is chairman of the borough Parks and Recreation Board.
He is married to the former Carol Kimmel, has three children and six grandchildren.
As mayor of Lehighton, I would like to institute two major programs. My first program being “Talk to the Mayor.” One evening a month would be set aside for anyone who would like to meet with me in council chambers and be heard with questions, remarks, recommendation or concerns about Lehighton. I believe this would be a great way to open a line of communication.
Of course, I would also be available any time needed. Secondly, “Mayor for a Day.” A program to familiarize townspeople (young and old) with the inner workings of the mayor’s office, police department, borough manager and council.
