Elementary student to attend leadership forum
RossLynn Gasker, a student at Panther Valley Elementary School, has been nominated to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum, a pathway to STEM, or science, technology, engineering and mathematics, an Envision program that will be held this summer.
RossLynn was nominated by her former teacher, Adrian Bumbulsky, and Panther Valley counselor Danielle Bales.
Students are chosen in honor of their maturity, academic excellence and leadership potential. The program focuses on team building, goal setting and career exploration. It’s also designed to give a deeper insight into how leaders can bring different types of people together and discover one’s own potential for success.
Students will learn about the world or medicine, how to program a robot and learn detective work as well as crime scene investigation.
RossLynn will practice medical techniques during a realistic simulation titled “When care is hours away.” This special session was created in collaboration with wilderness medicine expert Dr. Paul Aurbach and simulations expert Dr. Rebecca Smith-Coggins, professors in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.
RossLynn will be attending the program at the University of Pittsburgh in July.
