ESU professor on NOW committee
Kimberly S. Adams, Ph.D., professor of political science at East Stroudsburg University, has been appointed to the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee, in Washington, D.C.
The Political Action Committee is the electoral politics arm of NOW. NOW PAC endorses and supports feminist candidates for federal office that are committed to NOW’s values and priorities. The PAC consists of eight members, including two National NOW officers, three board members, and three at-large members, appointed by the president.
Adams was also appointed to NOW’s Racial Justice Committee. In this capacity, she wrote and presented a resolution at NOW’s annual conference in Minneapolis (July 18-21) on the over-criminalization of young girls and women of color. The resolution was passed in the issues hearing phase and was subsequently passed by the membership at large.
During the conference, Adams also co-facilitated a discussion of Ijeoma Oluo’s work, “So You Want to Talk about Race.”
Whether teaching about women and politics, presenting research or publishing on female agenda-setting behavior in legislative bodies, marching for gender equity, or registering voters, Adams has devoted her career to the advancement of women and minorities in society.
