Events planned for mental health month
To raise awareness during May, national Mental Health Awareness Month, Schuylkill County organizations have organized several free events:
Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Stomp Out Suicide Walk, Hometown Farmers’ Market, Hometown.
May 9, 6:30 to 8 p.m. — Question, Persuade, Refer discussion at Lehigh Valley Health Network Multipurpose Room, in the McCloskey School of Nursing, Pottsville.
May 10, 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mental Health Awareness Month Kickball Tournament, Barefield Park, Pottsville.
May 15, 2 p.m. Suicide: The Ripple Effect movie, Majestic Theatre, Pottsville.
May 23 and 24, 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Youth Mental Health Fire Aid, Schuylkill Technology Center, Mar Lin.
May 29, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Interpersonal Violence Symposium, Alvernia University, Schuylkill Campus.
The Schuylkill County Commissioners commended Mental Health personnel for the work they do by issuing a proclamation honoring the month.
“You’re the heroes,” Commissioners’ Chairman George Halcovage said. “You are trying to help them find a solution, which they may have deep inside themselves but they don’t know it.”
