Fall events

• Jim Thorpe: Fall Foliage Festival, Oct. 6-7, 13-14 and 20-21, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

• Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville) will hold its Apple and Fall Fest from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6 in the Picnic Grove. Music by God’s House Band Plus from noon to 3 p.m. There will be a Chinese auction and meat raffle with drawings at 3 p.m.

• The United Presbyterian Church in Slatington is holding its 28th annual Apple Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at 6750 Route 873 in Slatington. The festival features apple dumplings, apple cider, homemade soups and baked goods, hot dogs and salads for purchase, eat in or take home. There will also be baskets, 50-50 raffles and vendors.

• People’s EC Church is hosting Fall Fest from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 12 at 216 Wagner St., Lehighton. Free food, games, and crafts for everyone. Fall Fest will be kid-friendly, serving as an alternative activity to the dark, spooky events normally associated with Halloween. Kids will love being a game-piece in the life-size Bible adventures game. There will be plenty of candy to take home as well. Stick around for the warm food as the church welcomes the brisk fall season. There will also be face painting and animal balloons.

• Walnutport Canal Festival will be held Oct. 20-21.

• Rush Township Police Department’s inaugural 5K Run/Walk, will be held in conjunction with a Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 27, 1-4 p.m., in the Hometown Farmers Market parking lot. Participants can register for the 5K at www.rushtownship.org and anyone interested in participating in the “Trunk or Treat” can call the township office directly at 570-668-2938. The event will include a costume contest, a trunk decoration contest, food, games and candy.

• The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 927 is hosting a free Halloween party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 27. Costumes encouraged. The party is open to the community for children up to age 12. There will be games, contests and prizes. A light lunch will be served to the children only, with complimentary coffee for the adults. Children must be registered by Oct. 20 at the American Legion Post 927 off Route 209 at 646 Fairground Road in Gilbert (with Army Tank). No phone reservations taken. Space is limited to 75 children. Sign up table is in the lobby.

• Lehighton Halloween Parade, 4 p.m. Oct. 20. Rain date, 2 p.m. Oct. 21.

• Tamaqua Halloween Parade, 7 p.m. Oct. 23.

• Jim Thorpe Halloween Parade, 1 p.m. Oct. 27. Line up at noon. Rain date Oct. 28, same times.

• 111th annual Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade: 6 p.m. Oct. 27. The rain date is 6 p.m. Oct. 28.

Trick or treat

• Jim Thorpe: 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31

• Lansford: 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31

• Lehighton: 6-9 p.m. Oct. 31

• Lower Towamensing: 6-8 p.m. Oct. 27.

• Rush Township: Trunk or treat, 1-4 p.m. Oct. 27, Hometown Farmers Market parking lot.

• Tamaqua: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 27. Anyone wishing to have the ghouls and goblins entertain them should make sure their porch light is turned on.

• West Penn: 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 27.

• Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company trunk or treat, 2-6 p.m. Oct. 28.
