Family members speak out after verdict announced
After a Schuylkill County jury found Robert Bailey guilty of first-degree murder, little further action was needed. The verdict carries an automatic life sentence.
Bailey waived his right to a pre-sentence investigation.
Although it would not affect the length of sentence in any way, family members affected by the crime asked for an opportunity to address Bailey, which was granted by Judge John Domalakes.
Sandra Corker, mother of Diane Bailey, said, “I want him to understand the pain; she was my only child. She didn’t deserve what happened to her.”
In the hallway outside the courtroom, she added more statements to the things she’d wanted to say in court.
“He was in and out of her life for 25 years, and I wound up raising the two grandchildren. He was a possessive man. He is a sick man. He also ruined her (Diane Bailey’s) daughters’ lives. May God have mercy on his soul.”
Alice Horton, aunt of Diane Bailey, said, “She came to Pennsylvania trying to get her life on track. He kept her away from family, and now he took her away from us. I hope you live a long life. You deserve to feel the pain of prison.”
Kali Hile, daughter of Diane Bailey, addressed Robert Bailey: “You are my dad. I love you and I forgive you. You will never see your granddaughter grow up.”
