Farewell events planned for Mahoning Elementary

Published January 26. 2018 10:07PM

It will be a year of goodbyes in Lehighton Area School District as students at Mahoning Elementary School walk the halls for the final time.

Mahoning Elementary staff is planning two farewell events in March to give everyone a chance to say goodbye to the building.

On March 8, from 5:30-8 p.m., the school will be hosting an annual art show in combination with an open house. Adrienne Fedor will be displaying artwork done by current K-4 students throughout the building. Diane Brownmiller and Carey Kunkle will be hosting a book fair during the night’s events.

While touring the school, the public, alumni, teachers, students and families will have a chance to share memories of the school. Walking along the school’s timeline, comments may be added for all to share. Old photos, yearbooks and awards will be on display for all to see.

The highlight of the evening will be when the time capsule placed in the cornerstone of the building in 2005 will be opened and contents displayed.

Light refreshments will be served.

On March 9, from 5-7 p.m., the school will again be open for all to see the previous night’s art work, timeline, time capsule contents and old photos. In addition, a book swap will be held in the auditorium. Old books may be brought in to exchange for new reading material. Light refreshments will be served.
