Father charged in assault Lansford man third family member to be charged, bail is $1M
A judge has set bail at $1 million for a 44-year-old man accused of taking part in an assault last month.
Richard Rodweller was arraigned Tuesday morning for his role in a Feb. 10 attack and stabbing which occurred on the 400 block of West Abbott Street, according to police.
Rodweller, his 15-year-old son and another juvenile attacked the victim in retaliation after the victim’s friend stole a bag of marijuana from Richard Rodweller, police said.
Rodweller’s wife, Casey, and son, Eric are also facing charges. Eric Rodweller is being charged as an adult for allegedly stabbing the victim in the chest twice. The other juvenile is facing charges in juvenile court.
The attack occurred at 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 10.
According to court documents, during the attack Richard Rodweller punched the man in the face repeatedly, and held him down while Eric Rodweller stabbed him and others punched and kicked him.
He is also accused of helping his son hide a butterfly style knife allegedly used in the stabbing.
The attack allegedly took place immediately following an alleged drug theft. 18-year-old Rene Figueroa allegedly took a bag of marijuana from Richard Rodweller without paying and ran away.
Police said Casey Rodweller and the unidentified juvenile set up the failed drug deal.
The stabbing victim, who went to the scene with Figueroa but claimed to have no knowledge of a drug deal, said he was attacked after Figueroa ran away.
The victim was stabbed twice in the chest and once in the foot, according to police. He is recovering from his injuries. During the assault, police said the attackers took his cellphone, backpack and shoes.
The assault ended after Casey Rodweller called police to report that she had been robbed by Figueroa. The victim said he was told to gather his belongings and leave the scene.
A few minutes later, the victim was found bleeding from the stab wounds on West Patterson Street (Route 209) near Turkey Hill.
Police interviewed the Rodwellers the night of the incident. Eric Rodweller admitted to stabbing the victim. Police located a knife, which they say was used in the stabbing, inside Richard Rodweller’s dresser.
Figueroa has been charged with theft in the case.
