Father Ciszek Day celebrated on Sunday
The 33rd annual Father Walter Ciszek Day will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Casimir Church, 231 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah, which is the home church of Father Walter J. Ciszek, S.J., whose cause for canonization is being investigated in the Catholic Church. St. Casimir is a worship center of Divine Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Shenandoah.
From noon to 1:30 p.m., the Father Walter Ciszek Prayer League Center, 218 W. Cherry St., Shenandoah (the former Annunciation BVM Church rectory) will be open to the public. Join the Prayer League with friends and spiritual sons and daughters of Father Ciszek to pray for the cause for his canonization and celebrate his life. Prayer cards and books will be available and it will be a chance to meet old friends and new at the social that will follow Mass in the church hall. It is also a time to visit the Ciszek Center and pray at St. Casimir’s to imitate the holy life of this man.
The guest homilist at the Mass will be the Rev. Brian Van Hove, S.J., who when he was a young Jesuit, knew Ciszek well at Fordham University in the 1970s. He would help Ciszek when he was writing “He Leadeth Me” and was present at Ciszek’s final vows in the Society of Jesus.
