FEMA surveyors expected in Nesquehoning
In the next few months, some Nesquehoning residents may be hearing from or seeing surveyors on their properties.
On Wednesday, councilwoman Rosemary Porembo said that the borough received a letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency regarding its plan to update the flood insurance rate map and flood insurance study report for the town.
“There will be some work with FEMA coming through. It is not a scam,” she said.
A letter sent to the borough said that representatives from Fisher Associates will be performing field surveys in and along each creek for the study. They will make every effort to stay on public land and rights of way, but may need to go on a privately owned property.
Porembo said that surveyors will be trying to contact private property owners ahead of their visits, but if they are unable to make contact, they will still continue with the survey.
“They will have a letter and license,” Porembo said, noting that if a resident isn’t contacted and sees a surveyor on their property, they should ask for their driver’s license and letter.
Survey crews will be around Nesquehoning beginning this month and continuing for the next four months, weather pending. Work will be completed during daylight hours.
