Fern Ridge Police investigate crashes
State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers recently.
• A three-vehicle crash was reported at 1:10 p.m. on May 28 at the intersection of Route 115 and Merwinsburg Road, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Emma F. McJury, 19, of Franklin Park, New Jersey, was stopped on Merwinsburg Road while Rickey L. Frey, 60, of Lehighton, was southbound on 115. McJury entered 115 and sideswiped Frey’s 2016 Ford F150 pickup with the front end of her 2013 Honda Fit. After impact McJury continued off the road and through a private driveway before striking a parked 1999 Honda Civic.
After striking the Civic, the Honda Fit struck an embankment where it came to rest. No injuries were reported.
The Honda Fit was towed. Troopers cited McJury.
• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 8:58 a.m. on June 5 along Weir Lake Road at the intersection with Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township. Sandra C. Altemose, 78, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2017 Jeep Renegade southbound on Weir Lake Road while John W. Verchot, 64, of Saylorsburg, driving a 2010 Honda Accord, was northbound on Weir Lake Road. Troopers said Altemose entered the intersection and began making a left turn onto 209 when her vehicle was struck by Verchot’s vehicle. No one was injured. The two vehicles were towed.
Altemose was cited for the crash.
• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 8:03 a.m. on June 7 along Astolat Road, at the intersection with Route 115, in Chestnuthill Township. A 17-year-old male from Kunkletown was operating a 2008 Chrysler Sebring eastbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. The teen swerved to avoid the deer and crashed into a utility pole. The Sebring continued about 20 more feet before coming to final rest.
The teen was not injured, but the vehicle was towed.
• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 11:51 a.m. on June 7 along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township, near Jenna Drive. Troopers said Von M. Streubel, 33, of Saylorsburg, driving a 2013 Ford Explorer, was attempting a U-turn from the right shoulder while Ricardo A. Yepez, 65, of New York City, New York, driving a 2018 Nissan Sentra, was northbound. Streubel re-entered the road in front of Yepez and a collision occurred.
Yepez and a passenger, Evelyn Ramos, 55, of Bronx, New York, were injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, East Stroudsburg Campus, by West End ambulance. Streubel and five passengers were not injured.
Both vehicles had to be towed. West End Fire Company volunteers also assisted at the scene.
A hit-and-run crash was reported at 5:43 p.m. on June 7 along Route 715, near Wallingford Road, in Jackson Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Steve J. Stratakos, 72, of Effort, was operating a 2016 Hyundai Elantra and stopped in the northbound traffic lane waiting for a vehicle in front of him to turn into a lot of a local business. His vehicle was struck in the rear by a Toyota Prius whose driver then fled the scene. Stratakos was not injured.
• At 8:36 p.m. on June 7 William Hoover, 53, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2004 Cadillac SRX southbound on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township, when the vehicle went off the road and landed in a ditch.
Troopers said driving under the influence charges are pending against Hoover.
• Troopers investigated a crash at 12:22 p.m. June 8 along Route 534 at Towamensing Trails Road, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Wilfredo Rivera Camacho, 51, of Scotrun, was operating a 2018 Peterbilt dump truck when he failed to property put down the dump body on his truck causing it to strike the overhead wires and break a PPL utility pole.
He was cited for careless driving.
