Fire damages home in Lehighton

A mother and her son were displaced from their home during a fire early this morning in Lehighton.

Borough fire Chief Patrick Mriss said the fire broke out at around 3:40 a.m. at a home at 102 Bridge St.

When firefighters arrived, the third floor of the two-unit home was on fire.

The other unit was vacant, Mriss said.

“Firefighters held it to there,” Mriss said. “The roof collapsed due Mriss said firefighters had the fire under control within about 30 minutes.

The house is unable to be occupied at this time.

A fire marshal was on scene, and the fire is still under investigation.

Also assisting at the scene were the Franklin Township Fire Department, Lehighton Police Department, and Lehighton Fire Police.

Contacted this morning, Michele Baehr, executive director for the American Red Cross of the Pocono Mountains, said the home is not livable, but not destroyed either.

Baehr said the Red Cross will provide the mother and son with lodging, food, clothing, medications, eyewear and any of the immediate basic needs.
