A single-family home was reduced to rubble following a devastating fire early Sunday morning in the Seek section of Coaldale.

Contacted this morning, borough Fire Chief Steven Polischak said the fire occurred at 4:19 a.m. at the single two-and-a-half-story family dwelling at 167 Greenwood St.

Upon arrival, Polischak said firefighters encountered full involvement of the structure.

“Heavy fire, heavy heat, we did defensive operations the whole time,” Polischak said. “We did not do any exterior attack due to the volume of the fire and making sure everybody was safe.”

Polischak said the fire was under control in under 40 minutes; however, the home is a total loss.

He said there were no injuries, as the home was unoccupied.

Polischak said they are still seeking the identity of the owner of the property.

He said the cause of the fire is under investigation by the local Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal.

Polischak said also assisting at the scene were the Lansford Fire Department, Summit Hill Fire Department, Citizens Fire Company in Tamaqua, Tuscarora Fire Company and Tamaqua Ambulance.

“I’d like to thank all the firefighters that helped,” he said. “Glad that everyone went home safe.”
