A home was destroyed by a fast-moving fire Wednesday night in Walker Township.
Township fire Chief Chad Felty said the fire broke out at the home at 87 Gameland Drive at 9:15 p.m. in the Wildcat Mountain development just off Wildcat Road.
“Upon arrival, the house was fully engulfed, lost totally,” Felty said.
“It was a defensive attack all the way across, there was nobody entrapped to send anybody in, it was already compromised.”
However, Felty said he believes there were two pets lost in the fire.
“The homeowner was home, he tried saving them, smoke was too thick,” he said. “He then went to a neighbor across the street.”
Felty said the cause of the fire is undetermined, but added a state police fire marshal was coming in today to investigate.
Firefighters were on scene for about four hours, said Felty, who added Tamaqua, New Ringgold, West Penn, and Tuscarora fire departments, along with tankers from Hometown, Mount Carbon, Schuylkill Haven and Landingville assisted at the scene.
“No injuries,” he said. “Everybody went home.”
Felty said the Red Cross was assisting the homeowner.
With the home on the pinnacle of the mountain, residents and motorists could see the flames from miles away.
Water had to be tanked into the site because of the remote location.
