Five placed in special probation program

Six first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Thursday by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record is wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.

All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted:

Alexis Elizabeth Footman, 21, of Forty Fort, Luzerne County, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana. She was arrested on May 24 by state police at Pocono along the turnpike following a crash.

She was injured in the crash and found on her person was marijuana.

She was assessed $450 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment.

Mary F. Haggerty, 51, of Albrightsville, was placed for six months on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on June 10 by Jim Thorpe police in the area of North and Spruce streets following a vehicle stop.

She was assessed $450.

Allison M. Herman, 32, of Jim Thorpe, was placed for 18 months on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance — heroin. She was arrested on Sept. 11 by Jim Thorpe police in the 200 block of North Street.

She was assessed $450 and zero tolerance imposed for drug or alcohol use.

Randa Kehl, 29, of Coaldale, was placed on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was arrested on July 10 by agents of the state Attorney General’s office in the area of Hillside Avenue, in Palmerton. Heroin was the drug involved.

She was assessed $650 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow and zero tolerance imposed on drug and alcohol use.

Manaury Minyety Medina, 22, of Philadelphia, was placed on a driving under the influence charge. He was arrested on July 6 by state police at Lehighton along Interchange Road in Franklin Township.

Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.

He was assessed $600 for the cost of the program, his license was suspended for 60 days and must follow any recommendation for treatment in his drug and alcohol evaluation.

Crystal M. West, 44, of Lehighton, was placed on a charge of criminal trespass. She was arrested on Sept. 23 by Lehighton police for an incident in the 100 block of South Street.

She was assessed $450 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
