Frozen pipes cut off water supply at prison

Published March 04. 2019 03:48PM

It appears frozen pipes was the cause of no water flowing at the Carbon County prison today.

Commissoners Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that at just about 3:30 p.m., the water started flowing again to the prison.

“We think we have it resolved,” he said.

Crews from Moyer Well Drilling, two water companies, Pennsylvania Emergency Managament and the county worked on the pipes all day after it was discovered that no water was coming into the prison.

Nothstein said the problem began sometime last night and prison staff thought they were able to correct it, but the problem drained the water tank.

The county is now resetting the water system and refilling the tank and doing testing to make sure it is OK.
