Fundraisers being held for Danielsville fire victims
Numerous fundraisers are being held throughout the community for the family of Bruce A. “Buddy” Miller Jr. and his son, Bruce Alan Miller.
Buddy, 36, and 10-year-old Bruce died after a fire broke out at their home at 1132 Blue Mountain Drive in Danielsville at 12:47 a.m. Jan. 21. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
A celebration of their lives will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Wesleyan Church, 675 Blue Mountain Drive, Cherryville.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. before the service on Saturday and on Friday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., all at the church.
Buddy was the owner of Better Bid Tree Service for more than 15 years and loved operating all of his newest work toys. His free time was spent fishing, hunting, rooting for the Eagles and Phillies, playing video games, bowling, snowboarding and spending time with his family and friends. He had a passion for cars, country music and being a prankster, according to his obituary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lehigh Township Volunteer Fire Company c/o the funeral home. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.schislerfuneralhomes.com.
Numerous fundraisers are being held throughout the community.
Today, the One Ten Tavern in Palmerton hosted a basket raffle and specials.
Robert Johnson, marketing adviser at the One Ten Tavern, said the fundraisers are for a “family in need.”
“They’re like community neighbors to us,” Johnson said. “It’s getting the community to give back to neighbors in need.”
Johnson said their hearts go out to the family.
“We know that demolition costs and funeral costs are coming up,” he said. “We’re trying to make it a lot easier on them.”
Despite the threat of snow, Johnson said the business will be open today.
“We’d like to say thank you to the businesses and families who have donated,” he said.
A spaghetti dinner, silent basket raffle and bake sale will be held 1-8 p.m. March 2 at Roosevelt Democratic Club, 3980 Mountain View Drive, Danielsville. Tickets are available by calling 610-767-2664. All proceeds will benefit the Miller family.
A Miller memorial ride is also being held from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. April 27, starting at Becky’s Drive In, 4548 Lehigh Drive, Berlinsville. Bike registration starts 10 a.m.; the ride begins noon. Other highlights of the day include vendor displays, a moon bounce, trackless train ride, K-9 demonstration by Lehigh Township Police Department, basket raffle, disc jockey and food.
Seventy-five percent of the proceeds will go to the Miller family; the remaining will go to the Lehigh Township Police Department. For registration fee and other information, contact Janet Sheats at 484-239-1040 or janetsheats@aol.com.
