Girl Scouts aim to brighten patients’ days

An extended illness that lands someone in the hospital for a lengthy stay or confines them to their home can make for a dark time in a person’s life.
Local Girl Scouts, however, are trying to turn some of those frowns upside down.
On Sunday night, members of Girl Scout 3506, Palmerton Service Unit 728, gathered at Roth House Bed and Breakfast in Little Gap to paint small, yet colorful, favors that will be delivered to the St. Luke’s Palmerton Campus for use with the Meals on Wheels program and delivered to hospital patients.
“We hope they can cheer some of the patients up,” said Scout Leader Marnie Kuhns.
Each month, a different area service unit takes its turn making favors.
Scout leaders hope the girls can be proud of their efforts to help others.
“Hopefully they take away a sense of accomplishment and helping other people and they feel they are bringing happiness to the lives of someone who might be shut in or be in the hospital for an extended period of time,” Kuhns said.
The Scouts plan to deliver the favors in early May.
