Group wants piano installed in Josiah White Park
A Jim Thorpe artist group is hoping to place a piano in Josiah White Park as a way to bring the community together.
Cheryl Roger and Patricia Brunson approached the county commissioners Thursday to ask if the piano they have can be installed in the park.
This is the second time Roger submitted a proposal, she said.
The piano, painted by a Jim Thorpe student as a community service project, would be insured and maintained by a group of borough individuals who would lock the piano at night, open it in the morning and cover it in inclement weather.
It would also be tuned regularly by the group to make sure that it is ready for anyone who would like to play it.
“Talking to the town, the residents strongly feel Josiah White Park would be the perfect place,” Roger said. “We are hoping we can place it.”
Brunson said the borough has already given permission for the piano to be placed in the town, but the sidewalks are too narrow, and Josiah White Park is the most centralized location where it would benefit the most people.
Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard said the board will sit down and discuss the request.
