Group works to beautify Lansford
Drivers traveling along Route 902 between Lansford and Summit Hill should notice a cleaner, greener gateway to the town.
Lansford Alive, a nonprofit group dedicated to improving the borough, spent Saturday mulching, planting and cleaning up a borough-owned lot that sits along the road.
The group has prioritized the town’s gateways for their projects.
“It’s key locations in town. It’s what people see when they come into the borough,” Lansford Alive board President Christopher Ondrus said.
The group received a $1,250 matching Main Street grant from the Greater Lehigh Chamber of Commerce Foundation. The grant required the group to also commit $1,250.
The lot includes a 900-pound hunk of coal from Lehigh Anthracite.
Panther Valley Lumber donated stone.
On the same day, borough council conducted a cleanup along Route 902, with help from teenagers who needed community service through the office of juvenile probation.
The group cleaned up leaves and trash and removed branches that were blocking a welcome sign to the borough. PennDOT picked up the limbs they cut.
Council will conduct another cleanup on July 28 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Interested volunteers can contact the Lansford Borough Office at 570-645-3900.
