Hanna Nesfeder named Guiding Star
Each year the Concourse Club of Palmerton honors five Guiding Stars from the Palmerton Area Senior High School. The students are chosen by a committee of high school educators in the district.
A Guiding Star must be a female student in the top 25 percent of the senior class and be involved in both school and community activities. Each Guiding Star receives a certificate, an engraved Guiding Star charm and a $100 cash award.
Hanna Nesfeder was recently selected as one of this year’s Guiding Stars and was recognized at the Concourse Cub meeting on March 1. She is the daughter of Michele and Brian Nesfeder and has six siblings: Corbin, Coralie, Ella, Michael, Alexander and Lily.
Hanna addressed the Concourse Club and recognized her mother as her guiding star, saying that she is an inspiration to her and has always looked up to her mother for her strength and determination.
Hanna’s hobbies include reading, listening to music and watching Netflix and “Game of Thrones.”
Her school activities include secretary of the National Honor Society, vice president of the book club, chess club, Scholastic Scrimmage, and Future Business Leaders of America. She is also a member of the school’s track and field team and a team captain in cross-country.
Outside of school she volunteers at the St. John’s Episcopal community dinners and is an altar server at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.
In last year’s FBLA competition, Hanna placed second in business communications and fifth in health care administration. In cross-country she placed ninth in the district meet. She also received Widener University’s Leadership Award.
Hanna’s future plans include attending college at either Drexel, Widener or Hofstra to major in biology/biochemistry with pre-med.
