Healthy steps classes

Free “Healthy Steps for Older Adults” fall-prevention classes will be offered at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St., from 1 to 2 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, from March 2 to March 25.

Healthy Steps for Older Adults is an evidence-based program for people ages 50 and older to help reduce the risk of falls. Taught by a certified instructor, the program consists of one-hour sessions twice a week for four weeks.

It starts with a warm-up, followed by strength and balance exercises and ends with a cool down/stretch. Program benefits include building strength, increasing flexibility and improving balance.

People should pe-register before Feb. 26 by calling 570-624-3017.
