State police at Fern Ridge have identified the person whose human remains were found in March in Chestnuthill Township.

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the remains were identified as Richard Francis Kimock, 52, of Chestnuthill Township.

The remains were identified using dental records.

Kimock was the subject of a missing person investigation reported to state police at Fern Ridge on Nov. 27, 2017.

The cause and manner of Kimock’s death are currently undetermined, and the investigation continues.

Authorities conducted a search on March 27 after a skull was discovered on March 20 in the woods along Hypsie Gap Road.

State police at Fern Ridge were dispatched to the wooded area. The Troop N Major Case Team and Forensic Services Unit were activated, and searches of the area were conducted.

A wider search of the area along Hypsie Gap Road was conducted with the assistance of Dr. Dennis Dirkmaat, a forensic anthropologist at Mercyhurst University, the Monroe County Coroner’s Office and state troopers from Fern Ridge and Stroudsburg barracks.

Unmanned Response provided overhead drone and mapping of the area.
