Inmate found dead at SCI Mahanoy

State Correctional Institution at Mahanoy Superintendent Theresa A. DelBalso reports the death of an inmate.

On June 8 at 6:17 a.m., a corrections officer conducting security rounds found inmate Arnold Mulholland unresponsive in his cell. Officers and nurses responded immediately and began CPR, which continued as the inmate was transported to the prison’s medical department.

On June 8 at 7:23 a.m., Mulholland was pronounced dead by the coroner at SCI Mahanoy.

The Pennsylvania State Police will conduct an investigation, and the official cause of death will be determined by the county coroner’s office.

Mulholland, 50, was serving a life sentence for murder from Philadelphia County. He was committed on May 22, 1990.

Facility staff has notified the inmate’s next of kin.
