Inmates face additional charges
Two Carbon County inmates face additional charges following incidents at the correctional facility in Nesquehoning.
Walter Matthew Hess, 31, was charged with retaliation against a witness or victim, criminal attempt, terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment after he had a confrontation with a corrections officer.
According to an affidavit filed by Nesquehoning police patrolman Carl Breiner, on Jan. 13, officers were contacted by the prison about Hess threatening one of the prison officers. At the time of the incident, Hess had recently been arrested and charged with aggravated assault for assaulting the same corrections officer and was waiting for trail in that case.
The corrections officer reported that he was in the restricted housing unit handing out food trays to the inmates when Hess began threatening him again. Hess then approached him in a boxing stance, but the officer called for additional help and they secured Hess inside his cell before an altercation began.
He was arraigned and bail was set at $50,000.
Hess now faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek on Feb. 12.
In another incident at the prison, Anvar Khatipov, 32, was charged with two counts of aggravated harassment by a prisoner.
According to an affidavit filed by Nesquehoning police patrolman Kyle Sabulsky, he was called to the prison on Dec. 9 for an incident that happened the night before.
The sergeant at the prison reported that Khatipov threw feces and urine at a corrections officer and another inmate.
Khatipov admitted the two incidents and was charged.
He was arraigned before Kosciolek, who set bail at $50,000. He then waived his preliminary hearing and has a formal arraignment in the district attorney’s office scheduled for Feb. 27.
