Jim Thorpe plans National Night Out activities on Tuesday
Jim Thorpe is joining thousands of communities across the country in hosting a National Night Out event Tuesday.
The crime and drug prevention event will run from 6-9 p.m. in Jim Thorpe’s Memorial Park.
According to police Chief Joe Schatz, the event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Jim Thorpe Police Department and Jim Thorpe Community Watch.
“The event will feature first responders from the Jim Thorpe area, over 20 organizations and civic groups, food, drinks, games, a fire show by Crufeli Sideshow and Entertainment, and music provided by DJ Monroe Berger,” Schatz said.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership, and send a message to criminals, letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Event supporters include Jim Thorpe Borough, Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, Mauch Chunk Trust Company, DJ Monroe Berger, and Crufeli Sideshow and Entertainment.
“We would also like to thank the many organizations and civic groups for agreeing to volunteer their time to help make the event a success,” Schatz said.
The rain date for the event is from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.
