Jim Thorpe School Board
Jim Thorpe Area School Board approved the following this week:
• Tremco was approved to solicit bids in regard to the Jim Thorpe Low Slope Roof Management Plan for 2018.
• The business office was directed to prepare specifications and solicit bids for parking lot repairs to all district lots, the replacement of the upper concrete walkway and 4-riser stair at the at the district office, an update on the existing fire alarm system at the district office and the repair of the High School’s Center Street entrance.
• Paraprofessional Sharon Eckman’s retirement, effective at the end of the 2017-18 school year.
District level extended school year teachers Maria Shirar, Amy Demko, Monroe Berger, Brianna Oswald, Carol Judd, Donna Corrocher and Robin McGeehan were approved for July 19 through 26, at the hourly compensation rate according to the current CBA. Substitute Justina Reph was approved for July 16 through 19.
• The Pennsylvania School Board Association policy review service was approved with the intent of a complete update of all district policies. The update is expected to take between 18 months to two years and cost $6,600.
• A motion to re-advertise for the solicitation of bids for the sales of a district-owned 2000 Chevrolet handicap-accessible bus was approved.
• A bid for a 2005 district-owned Chrysler Town and Country was accepted.
• An out-of-state field trip for the Civil War Class and History Club to the Antietam National Battlefield in Maryland and Harpers Ferry National Historic Park in West Virginia from April 22 to 23.
• The formation of new High School Debate Club and Math Clubs was approved, with Tom Ward and Michael Spirk serving as club advisers, respectively.
Graduation for Jim Thorpe Area High School has been set for 6 p.m. on June 15 at the high school.
• June 11, 12, 14 and 14 were adjusted as early dismissal days. June 15 and 18 were adjusted as teacher in-service days. June 19 was adjusted as a teacher flex day.
