Jim Thorpe seeks new tax collector
Jim Thorpe Borough is in the market for a new tax collector.
Council accepted the resignation of longtime tax collector Terry McElmoyle on Thursday night, and voted to advertise the opening both in the newspaper and on its website.
McElmoyle’s resignation is effective Feb. 1. The borough then has 30 days to fill the position. Applicants can express interest by Jan. 31.
According to discussion at the borough’s workshop on Monday, Patricia Spillman has already submitted a letter of interest.
Whoever the borough taps to fill the position will serve the remainder of McElmoyle’s term, which runs until the end of 2021.
According to Sterner, McElmoyle’s resignation necessitates an audit, and council is hoping to team up with the two other taxing bodies, Carbon County and Jim Thorpe Area School District.
The school district, she said, has already expressed interest in using the same auditor. Council authorized Sterner on Thursday to accept the lowest responsible proposal for the audit.
