Kidder looks at ordinance to allow Valor project

Published May 21. 2018 05:12AM

The Kidder Township board of supervisors will hold a public hearing in June to make way for a Valor Clinic project.

A public hearing will be held at 5:30 p.m. on June 21 for a zoning ordinance that will allow “camps and retreats” within a commercial district. The change is being considered to accommodate the Valor Clinic Foundation, which has recently acquired property in the township that lies between Routes 80 and 940.

The clinic plans on constructing a retreat that will expand its Veterans Unstoppable program.

In other business:

• The board voted to accept a bid from Shiffer Bituminous Service of Kunkletown to pave Luther Road this summer. Chairman Thomas Bradley said the bids ranged from $75,000 to $111,000. Shiffer was the lowest bidder.

• The supervisors also amended the Emergency Services Fund, allowing the fire and ambulance companies to request up to 60 percent of the cost of a vehicle and other “infrequently recurring major equipment.”

Beth Hurley and Joe Hartnett were appointed to the township’s Environment Advisory Committee.

• The supervisors accepted the resignation of part-time police officer Andrew Daly.

• The Albrightsville Volunteer Fire Department requested a donation from the township toward its annual horse show.

“Since I was on this board before and I am back now, we have not approved donations of this kind,” said Supervisor Larry Polansky. “So I suggest that each of the five supervisors reach into their pockets and take out a 10-dollar bill and donate it.”

The motion was seconded by supervisor Barbara Franzosa and was approved.
