Kidder Township votes to suspend recycling program
Kidder Township supervisors voted Thursday evening to suspend its recycling program due to an increase in volume and cost.
Over the past few months township Manager Lisa Klem has commented on the increase in the amount of recycling that has been brought to the township and the fact that even though there are signs directing residents to not leave bags when the bins are full, people continue to ignore the signs and leave recycling and garbage.
“We contacted the hauler to request a second pickup, and they said that they would do it but at four times the current price,” Klem told the supervisors. “They also said that the price for taking the recycling will be doubling.”
Klem requested a motion to discontinue the recycling program. The motion was approved and the program will end as of April 30.
The supervisors also accepted a bid from Bruce George Paving to begin Phase I of the township trail project. The bid of $129,913.49 was the lowest of five bids. The highest was a bid of $419,865 from Bill Anskis Company Inc.
Klem said there is $27,000 in the township account earmarked for the trail. An additional $32,000 was raised by the Hike and Bike group, and $18,000 is available from a stormwater account.
Klem requested and got approval to take the balance of $50,000 from an account that was to be used for a library building.
The township also ratified a Trail Easement Agreement with Blue Ridge Real Estate.
The supervisors also approved motions to advertise two ordinances. The first is to rescind Ordinance No. 82 Chapter 21 titled Emergency Services Commission. The second is Ordinance 185 which will amend Ordinance No. 183, Chapter 13 on how Emergency Services Funds are enabled and requested.
Both ordinances will be available for review on the township website before voting which will take place at the April 18 meeting.
