Lansford council continues negotiations for site for garage

Published November 15. 2019 12:29PM

Lansford Borough Council is continuing negotiations with Silberline Manufacturing Co. for the purchase of a property to serve as the borough’s garage.

President Jared Soto said, “We are in the middle of everything,” explaining that the borough is transitioning from their letter of intent to purchase the property to an actual sales agreement. He also noted that the borough has added a new piece to their letter of intent that requires Silberline to disclose any prior DEP or EPA testing done on the property, as well as remain liable should there ever be complications on the land due to chemical exposure.

Soto also said the borough is in the process of amending a state grant they had previously received for garage repairs to allow renovations in the new facility, such as the addition of heat, electricity, a bathroom and a new roof. The borough is also gathering information about cost for insurance coverage.

Councilwoman Marie Ondrus remains skeptical of the purchase, calling it a money pit.
