A Lansford man was sentenced to a state prison term on Friday in Carbon County court on a endangering the welfare of a child charge.

Judge Joseph J. Matika sentenced Robert C. Ahn III, 37, to serve 15 to 36 months in a state correctional institution.

Ahn was arrested on May 30, 2017, by Lansford police for an incident along West Walnut Street, where he was charged with letting a 3-year-old child be assaulted.

Ahn is currently an inmate in the state correctional institution at Camp Hill, Dauphin County. He said he is awaiting parole on the sentence he is currently serving. Matika ruled his sentence would run concurrent with that term, meaning he still has most of the 15 months to serve.

Ahn told Matika that he had gotten help in the state system adding, “I’m a changed man.” He said he was addicted to drugs and has done well in the state prison drug rehab program. He said he has done so well that he is counseling other inmates who are in the program.

Matika also ordered him to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, supply a DNA sample, render 75 hours of community service when paroled, pay court costs of about $1,000 and he was made eligible for the state boot camp program.
