L.B. Morris Elementary students celebrate reading
Jim Thorpe’s L.B. Morris elementary school celebrated Read Across America week while honoring Dr. Seuss’s 116th birthday Wednesday evening.
Jim Thorpe’s Dimmick Memorial Library staff were also at the event to spread awareness and offer information on the library’s programs, activities and services.
Tables were set up and made into figurative writing stations throughout the school’s hallways and cafeteria. Stations provided fun and challenging games. Children also took part in book swaps, face painting and had an opportunity to share in and listen to a story hour with special guest Texas Roadhouse mascot Andy Armadillo.
“This is a wonderful event, because it gives children and families from the Jim Thorpe community a chance to do something as a family in a learning environment,” event volunteer Machelle Schlenner said.
“It’s been a great week thus far,” said Superintendent John Rushefski, who visited classrooms and read stories to students in Erica Chapman’s kindergarten class this week.
