It takes certain attributes to be a successful leader.

What exactly those building blocks and qualities are were shared at Leadercast Live Tamaqua 2018 recently.

About 90 people attended the event that aired on the big screen in The Stitch — Performing Arts Hall of the Tamaqua Community Arts Center.

The daylong leadership development event was simulcast live from Atlanta and once again presented locally by the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership.

Leadercast is a nationwide, one-day training event designed to equip attendees with leadership skills and knowledge, while also creating a desire within them to pursue greater growth and development.

Leona Rega, coordinator, Tamaqua Community Arts Center, said the event is broadcast to explain “how to build leaders in the community.”

“It’s not just for business people, but also for nonprofits and civic groups looking to develop leadership skills,” Rega said.

“It’s a day built around encouragement, and also to rejuvenate and re-energize those that are in leadership roles.”

The theme of this year’s event was Lead Yourself.

Speakers included Andy Stanley, leadership communicator and best-selling author; Jim Loehr, Ed.D., co-founder of the Human Performance Institute; Carey Lohrenz, U.S. Navy pilot, speaker and trainer; Kat Colle, COO and president, North America, of FOCUS Brands; Michael Hyatt, author, speaker and CEO of Michael Hyatt & Company; Jen Bricker, acrobat, aerialist, author and speaker; Mae Jemison, engineer, physician and NASA astronaut; Ian Morgan Cron, best-selling author, psychotherapist, Enneagram teacher and speaker; and Joe Torre, Hall of Fame baseball manager.

Local speakers included Wendy Lazo, president of St. Luke’s Miners Campus; and Schuylkill County born-and-raised Dave Stephens, author, speaker and transformational trainer with the Stephens Group, Training for Life & Success.

Adriane Drum, a teacher at Tamaqua Area High School, said that if students are taught that they have the potential to be leaders, it can help them to see themselves as leaders.

Maureen Donovan, assistant director workforce & community education, Lehigh Carbon Community College, said hearing others speak about success on both a professional and personal level, and how to balance work and life is important.

“I think that no matter what stage of your career or life, you can always learn and always get better,” Donovan said.
