Lehigh Township home damaged by fire

A mansion-style home in Lehigh Township was damaged by a fire Wednesday afternoon.

Township fire Chief Richard Hildebrand said the fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. at the home at 311 Mulberry Drive.

When firefighters arrived, Hildebrand said they encountered a fire inside the home that was through the roof and in the walls and in the attic in the area of the fireplace.

He said the homeowners were home at the time, and that there were no known injuries at this time.

“Firefighters were able to get ahead of the fire,” Hildebrand said. “They opened up the walls and ceilings and were able to extinguish it.”

Hildebrand said the home suffered moderate damage.

Firefighters remained on scene until 4 p.m.

Hildebrand said township fire marshals arrived and were on scene until 11 p.m.

He said the cause of the fire is unknown, and that fire marshals continue to investigate.

Hildebrand said they relied heavily on mutual aid to assist them, adding that surrounding fire departments provided aid to control the fire and provide manpower.

“Volunteer availability makes it difficult to control house fires, especially in the daytime,” he said. “Mutual aid is greatly needed and appreciated.”
