Lehigh Township Police to hold National Night Out

The Lehigh Township Police Department will hold National Night Out from 6-10 p.m. Aug. 6 at Indian Trail Park, 3821 Lehigh Drive Northampton.

There is no cost to attend. Those who attend can meet their neighbors, emergency service personnel and others.

There will be information on crime prevention and safety, as well as food, bike derby, car seat check, kids’ activities, games and much more.

Activities are as follows:

• 6 p.m.: Event kicks off with the singing of the national anthem by one of our local elementary school children, and interpreted in sign language. Raising of the colors by the Egypt VFW.

• 6 p.m. throughout the event: Kids activity tables, coloring and crafts with the police.

• Throughout the event: free food and drinks, including hot dogs, turkey barbecue, snow-cones, and locally made A-Treat soda.

• 6-8 p.m.: Ask an officer questions regarding public safety, highway safety, or any other community question for the police. Also on hand will be a local district magistrate to answer questions in his field.

• Pibbles & Paws will be on site with furry friends in need of a home.

• Sign up for Nixle (Lehigh Township Community Alerts) and follow them on Facebook for free raffle tickets.

• 6-8:30 p.m.: Historical society building opened for tours.

• 6:30-8:30 p.m.: Health screenings by Northampton Regional EMS.

• Lehigh Township Department of Public Works: touch a truck — come see the equipment that plows your roads, and keeps the township roads clear. Anyone with questions about public works may ask the public works superintendent.

• Bethlehem Health Bureau will be on hand with public health information and games.

Lehigh Township Police:

• 6:30 p.m.: Presentation on Vision Zero, its latest highway safety effort to reduce traffic crashes and fatalities.

• 7 p.m.: Presentations on safety for children (safety and anti-bullying).

• 7:30 p.m.: K-9 demonstration — come out and see their newest officer, K-9 officer Cash and his handler officer Jonathan Roth.

• There will be horseshoes throughout the event (watch for the game between the local police and fire department).

• There will be inflatable games for the kids, and police will be handing out crime prevention materials, child safety information and other materials to safeguard against crime.

• The night will conclude with a movie in the park, “Wreck it Ralph 2, Ralph Breaks the Internet,” and camp fire starting after dark. Popcorn is included.
