Lehighton committee to hold annual Holiday Storefront Decorating Contest

Published December 06. 2019 12:12PM

If they haven’t already, Lehighton businesses are urged to jazz up their establishments with Christmas decorations.

That’s because the Lehighton Main Street Steering Committee will present its annual Holiday Storefront Decorating Contest.

The event is for the entire community to participate in, and help spread some holiday cheer, as small businesses in the borough are teaming up with local residents and retail shoppers to create some holiday magic in the downtown district and throughout the community.

Participating businesses are creating seasonal storefront displays, and shoppers and residents are invited to show their support by voting on their favorite storefronts.

In conjunction with the Lehighton Tree Lighting Ceremony in the borough park, public voting will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday and continue until the evening of Dec. 17.

Everyone is encouraged to visit borough businesses, shop for those last-minute holiday gifts, and to cast their votes for their favorite storefront displays.

Votes can be cast at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MainStreetHoliday, or by filling out and submitting a paper ballot inside the Lehighton Borough office.

The Main Street Steering Committee will announce the winners of this year’s contest at noon on Dec. 21.

The top four participating businesses in the downtown district will each receive a $100 credit toward their electrical utility bill, as will two additional borough businesses operating outside the downtown district, for a total of six prize winners.

More information on the event can be found on their Facebook page at Lehighton MSSC, or by contacting the Main Street Steering Committee at mainstreet@lehightonborough.com.

There will also be a lighting contest for borough residents in which 10 winners are selected by a secret group of elves and will be announced at the same time as the businesses.

The winners will receive a $25 credit on their electric utility bill as part of the long-standing contest in the borough.
