Lehighton director asks for surveillance
Lehighton recreation director Tom Evans told borough council on Monday that there needs to be a better camera system in place at the Grove and recreation center.
“We’re going to have to bite the bullet,” Evans said.
“There’s so much vandalism going on, trying to break into the rec center.”
Borough manager Nicole Beckett agreed, but added, “Any time we do something nice out there, it gets ruined.”
Evans said he could use a part-time maintenance person to assist him from April through September.
Council then discussed having a job description created.
Resident William Rodweller asked what types of activities the borough offers its youth.
“What can we do to make sure these kids do something productive,” Rodweller said.
Evans said the Grove program will get underway on Monday.
The free program will run from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. On Thursday, the program is at Baer Memorial Swimming Pool.
The program is for students in grades 1-8, and has been offered in the borough for many years.
Councilman Donnie Rehrig lauded Evans for the work he’s done with the program.
“He’s been doing a great job with the program,” Rehrig said. “I admire Tom.”
Comments
Just look at the success of live streaming the Lehighton School Board and Body cams for the protection of police officers. If the free press would expose the curruption in government we would all be better off.
And then this comment:
“What can we do to make sure these kids do something productive,” Rodweller said.
Dude, why are you asking government to tell you what you can do? Jeez, did the newspaper seek out a liberal plant in the community to echo this garbage idiology? So dude, just elect moral people that believe in the freedoms of individuals, and act as if they are servants to the people.
Put morality back in the school curriculum. Get those on the school board taking immoral actions out of office, you know the five. If the taxes are lowered, parents and grandparents have more disposable income and time to supervise the youth. Families remain in the community. No child is going to vandalize a park if his mother or grandmother is watching, or dad is shooting hoops with them, or on the other side of the court, or on a swing.
Put up camera and live stream the images. End the drugs, stop the vandals, and remove the creepers from the shadows that prey on our youth.
When idiots ask governments to solve problems we are doomed, and we'll get big brother. When government's ask the people for solutions, the people respond, efficiently and the people are the ones with the authority, telling government what to do as our servants.
Be a strong person, be individually strong enough to morally help others. In my opinion, William Rodweller, has it completely backwards.
Sincerely,
Citizen David F. Bradley Sr.
