Lehighton Pool Pals and LDI to present first ‘Dive In’
Poolgoers can be a part of history at Lehighton’s Baer Memorial Swimming Pool this weekend.
At 9 p.m. Saturday, the Lehighton Area Pool Pals, along with the Lehighton Downtown Initiative, will present the first-ever “Dive In” at the pool.
Beginning at dusk, a classic movie involving a giant fish will be shown on a large screen to allow patrons to view the movie either splashing in the water, or sitting on chairs and benches.
Anyone with a season pass will be admitted free. For others entering after 5 p.m. the fee will be $6 for adults, $4 for children 13 to 17, and $1 for anyone 12 and under.
The concession stand will remain open until at least 9 p.m. to purchase food and drinks, however popcorn will not be sold or allowed due to concerns of the kernels causing damage to the sophisticated and expensive pumps and filters used at the pool, said Mark Hoffman, president of Lehighton Area Pool Pals.
Over the course of the summer, in recognition of the 10-year anniversary of the pool, there were many additional fun activities promoted, including night time swims, Hoffman said.
“The Pool Pals would like to thank everyone who supported the many events that were held, and at the same time they would like to apologize for any events that had to be canceled due to uncooperative weather,” Hoffman said. “A sincere, heartfelt thank-you goes out to the Fraternal Order of Orioles, Thrivent Financial, Lehighton Fire Company No. 1 and Trinity Lutheran Church for their generous donations that helped to defray the added cost of these special initiatives.”
Besides the “Dive In,” there are two additional night time swims scheduled from 5-9 p.m. on Aug. 15 and Aug. 22.
Hoffman said that on Aug. 15, senior citizens over the age of 55 will be allowed to enter for $1. DJ Kay Phillips will be on hand to provide music and promises to entertain the crowd throughout the night with some classic oldies, along with “polka in the pool” music, and there could possibly be some karaoke, he said.
Hoffman said Aug. 22 will mark the final nighttime swim of the year. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend any of these remaining events and as a reminder, anyone with a season pass can enter at no charge, he said.
Hoffman said the Pool Pals encourage their followers to keep up with all the fun events planned at the pool by visiting their new and improved website at lehightonareapoolpals.org.
