Lehighton reviews fire protection services agreement with Mahoning
An existing fire protection services agreement between Lehighton and Mahoning Township is under review.
Lehighton Borough Council recently debated the matter, but ultimately chose to table taking any action.
Borough engineer Bruce Steigerwalt, who also serves as a Mahoning Township supervisor, told council that Mahoning’s fire chief recently recommended that the township should just terminate the agreement, which was written in 1982.
Steigerwalt then suggested having the borough fire chief talk to Mahoning’s fire chief.
Borough fire Chief Pat Mriss said that in his professional opinion, there are huge gaps in responses.
Mriss said he didn’t have a problem talking with Mahoning’s fire chief about the situation.
